Limit - the best crags in Tirol

133 Wasserkraft Der Kartell-Stausee im Hintergrund liefert Strom. Aber wie soll dieser jetzt in die Akkus der E-Bikes fließen, die auf den letzten Metern zur Hütte ziemlich ans Limit kommen? The Kartell reservoir in the background produces electricity. For us, the decisive question is how the power can be transferred in the batteries of our e-bikes right now? They’re about to run out on the final metres to the hut. Also some sport climbing crags have been established around the Darmstädter Hütte over the last years. Alpinists can find even more opportunities with impressive summits such as the Seeköpfe (3,061 m) in the background. Can you spot the climber? Can you spot the new boulder opportunities? The picture captures David on a first ascent in the untouched block fields around the Darmstädter Hütte. In the background, the Vordere Rendlspitze with its ski resort, so far without fluffy champagne powder. Darmstädter Hütte | St. Anton am Arlberg | he rugged mountains are dusted with the first snow and the thermometer’s display indicates cool temperatures. With 0.5 degrees, the skiing season is about to kick off here at the Rendl- bahn cable car in St. Anton. In just a few months time, the crowds will find themselves competing for the first spots to ride untouched powder. Today, on this cool and clear October morning, however, not a soul is to be seen neither in the parking lot nor in the village. St. Anton is hiberna- ting – paradoxically enough in the midst of October. From the parking lot we head off south in the Moostal valley towards the Darmstädter Hütte. By foot, it would take us about three hours to reach the hut and we’re glad about our e-bikes. »It would probably not be worth it to take the long approach for bouldering on foot,« David claims and we fully agree with him. Getting the approach done by e-bike, we realize that we’re facing one superlative after the other: The Moostal valley is not only the longest high-level valley in the magazine but also the one which requires the most battery. On the final kilometres, Chanti starts complaining, »Can we make it at all? My battery is about to run out!« Soon afterwards, we can see the hut which is beautifully located on a hill framed by the massive 3,000 m peaks of the Verwall mountains. Up here, it feels as if we were in the middle of nowhere and we find ourselves sputtering superlatives, »most remote valley, loneliest region, most extreme solitude.« Not far from the hut, we find the first potential lines. The pleasant autumn sun warms our numb fingers and the dry and clear air provides the best friction. Nobody has been bouldering here before us which makes us feel like true pioneers here at Tyrol’s newest and youngest boulder spot. Overdoing it with superlatives is suspicious and spoils the message. Less is more which is why we stop at this point. Always leave them wanting more. T
