Multi-pitch routes in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena
Climbing in alpine surroundings
The Tiroler Zugspitz Arena around Ehrwald is a true paradise for outdoor sports enthusiasts of all abilities. Climbing in alpine surroundings is the motto here, at the foot of the Zugspitze. There are interesting routes in terrain close to the valley for sport climbers, as well as numerous multi-pitch tours, easy to high alpine hikes and, in winter, the opportunity for ice climbing. Of course, the range of sports on offer away from the rocks is almost unlimited. Whether mountain biking, golfing or simply relaxing in one of the cozy huts - there is definitely something for everyone here. And what you should definitely not miss out on: an ascent with the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn to the Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany.
Multi-pitch tips in the Zugspitze massif
- Grünstein north face
The mighty north face of the Grünstein, which climbs up to the Drachensee, offers 4 multi-pitch routes. The rock is mostly flat and good, but also has its brittle, alpine sections. Climbing here is best on hot summer days. Particularly recommended is the 180 m long route 3 Stürmische Zeiten, which can be reached in 30 minutes from the Coburger Hütte. It is a typical north face route in solid rock, well secured with bolts. The last pitch offers an interesting variation, which is somewhat more difficult. Abseiling is via the route. - Plattspitzen South
The Plattspitzen offer excellent rough, eroded rock with an alpine character. Here you can really enjoy the mountain world! An area that has incredible potential and is not yet fully developed. In addition to a climbing garden for sport climbers, 6 multi-pitch routes await mountain enthusiasts here. The 1,100 m long Aquaria route in the west sector is particularly beautiful. A varied, alpine climbing route that is well secured with bolts. The ascent takes around 1.5 hours from the Ehrwald cable car, with part of the route being completed by bike. The descent takes around 3 hours via a scree field, a fixed rope and a further abseil back to the bike. The 3 routes in the eastern sector of the Plattspitzen are also highly recommended: Des Kaisers alte Kleider with a length of 75 m, the 130 m long route Strom im Kopf and the 110 m long route Durststrecke (without electricity). The routes are on excellent rock and were all set up from below. The ascent takes about 40 minutes from the hut.
