Via ferratas in the Tannheimer Tal

Varied routes, great views

The Tannheimer Tal in the north of Tyrol is known for its peaks such as Gimpel, Hochwiesler and Rote Flüh with tours of all levels of difficulty and has some of the most beautiful via ferratas in Tyrol to offer. Numerous sport climbing routes and multi-pitch tours, 2 waterfalls for ice climbing and 1 high ropes course attract climbing enthusiasts to the "most beautiful high valley in Europe". And this has been the case for a very long time, as climbing has a long tradition here: several climbs were opened on the up to 200 m high south faces at the turn of the century and many of the old routes have now been renovated.

But the Tannheimer Tal also has a lot to offer away from the rocks: Sport, nature, tradition and enjoyment - a rich offer is guaranteed in any case.

Via ferratas in the Tannheimer Tal - limestone rock faces for beginners and pros

  • Friedberg via ferrata
Perfect for via ferrata beginners, easy to tackle, with a magnificent panorama: this is how the Friedberg via ferrata can be described in a nutshell. Thanks to the cable car at Füssener Jöchle, you don't have to make a long ascent and descent and can enjoy the view in peace and quiet. Once you have completed the climb, which is not too difficult, you can stop off at the Gimpelhaus. The climb is mainly exposed on the south to east side and is well secured, but it is not advisable in wet conditions.
  • Lachenspitze north face
With enough strength and fitness, this via ferrata is a dream tour! However, safe standing, good arm strength and an absolute head for heights are essential to really enjoy this climb. The via ferrata through the north face of the Lachenspitze is the perfect combination of vertical adventure and scenic enjoyment. The view of the 3 lakes makes up for the ascent and the beautiful steep passages are the icing on the cake for experienced alpinists. After the south-facing descent, you can enjoy refreshments at the Landsberger Hütte, not far from the entrance.
  • South spur on the Köllenspitze
If you want to stand on the highest peak in the Tannheimer Gruppe, you need to be in good physical condition and have plenty of strength and skill, as the via ferrata to the Köllenspitze is no walk in the park. For experienced via ferrata climbers, however, the often vertical passages and exposed traverses are pure enjoyment. Once you have conquered the south-east facing walls of the Köllenspitze, you can enjoy an incomparable panoramic view.
