The Nesselwängler Scharte forms the right end of the southern side of the Tannheim core area. On the broad southern side of the Kellespitze, the rock quality deteriorates considerably, only further west - at the Gehrenspitze - does the rock quality reach the desired level again. In return, the rock spikes, which are scattered in the wide embrasure between the Schäfer and the Kellespitze, offer once again the finest limestone. In some passages on the Seven Dwarfs with the best in the whole area.
If you want to combine climbing in an alpine environment with challenging mountain hiking and beautiful views, the Nesselwängler Scharte is the perfect place for you. West of the Scharte, the Kellespitze, the highest peak of the Tannheimer Berge 2247m, offers a magnificent panoramic view. The normal route (red, blue and marked with cairns) requires climbing skills up to a high degree. One climbs from the embrasure on the right (west) over meadows to the north-west flank and follows the path and the ascent traces up to a chimney channel. This is climbed down and crossed further into a gully. This is climbed up (a short steep section with a wire rope) to an embrasure. From the huts in the direction of "Gimpel-Normalweg". Where the path meets the Gimpel porch, turn right towards "Nesselwängler Scharte" and follow the path running under the walls (watch out for falling rocks) until the shepherd's eastern boundary. (about 40 minutes from the hut), there you will find the "Vorstiegsparcour". The following prominent rocky outcrops, up to 20 meters high, are called the "Seven Dwarfs". Shortly after the wide "Kamelschrofen" the hiking trail turns sharply left and leads between the "Hinkelstein" (left) and the "Gededenktafelwand" (right) to the Nesselwängler Scharte (approx. 45 minutes from the hut).

The altogether most rewarding chunk of the area is the Hinkelstein (15-25m), whose west side offers eight well secured, varied climbing garden routes. The rock forms a nozzle with the opposite memorial wall (10-15m), through which the pass wind blows noticeably. In midsummer this can be great, but in spring and autumn it gets very cold very quickly.
