Steinberge mountain sports region

Climbing in the Loferer and Leoganger Steinberge and on the Steinplatte

The repertoire of the Steinberge region ranges from family-friendly climbing gardens to 10 exciting via ferratas and more than 1,000 sport climbing routes to alpine multi-pitch routes. With the "Pinzgawurm" route (45 pitches), you will find one of the longest alpine sport climbing routes here.

The imposing Steinplatte in particular attracts climbers to the border region between Tyrol and Salzburg.

In recent years, the access routes to selected climbing areas have been uniformly marked, specially designated parking spaces have been created and overview boards for the individual areas have been designed and produced.

In addition to the climbing guide "Steinplatte" by climbing expert Adi Stocker, a separate climbing manual with climbing possibilities and valuable information has been published. These climbing guides are available free of charge in all offices of the Saalfelden Leogang, Salzburger Saalachtal and PillerseeTal tourist boards.

The Steinberge

The climbing regions of Saalfelden Leogang, Salzburger Saalachtal and PillerseeTal - Kitzbüheler Alpen stretch from Tyrol to Salzburg. The regions around the Steinplatte and the Loferer and Leoganger Steinberge have developed into one of the most famous climbing areas. Climbing legends such as Markus Bendler, Chris Sharma and the Huber-Buam enjoy themselves on the rocks here on the border between Tyrol and Salzburg. The Steinplatte in particular is a worthwhile destination.

The Loferer Steinberge are also affectionately known as the "Stoaberg". The peaks can be climbed via the valley villages of Lofer (Loferer Hochtal), St. Martin bei Lofer or from the Tyrolean side.
