Via ferrata Stuibenfall
For children and beginners, numerous footholds have been added to make the route more accessible. This allows kids from around ten years old to enjoy the family adventure and tackle the slightly overhanging key sections.
Right at the start, the Stuibenfall waterfall is crossed at a tame spot via a rope bridge, known as the Schleudergang. The route then winds through the forest in switchbacks to the first climbing section. Here, climbers can get familiar with the safety techniques and practice clipping and unclipping their via ferrata set.
The first traverse is easy. The route then follows a corner, leading over a steep edge to the Yellow Wall. Next comes an exposed traverse, followed by the key section, where strength and courage are needed as the rock pushes outward. However, at the rest area, the perspective shifts. Until now, climbers have been looking down the valley, but here, the waterfall comes into view. Under a sheltered rock overhang, a bench invites you to take a well-earned break.
After another traverse, the entire Stuibenfall waterfall reveals itself, leaving climbers in awe of the sheer force of the thundering water masses. The upper rope bridge challenges experts to dance across this untamed waterfall. To the right of the waterfall, the final meters to the exit at the suspension bridge are quickly overcome. For a more relaxed finish, an easier variant remains on the left side of the water, leading comfortably to the exit right by the suspension bridge.
Requirements for the via ferrata:
- Minimum height: 1.40 m
- Surefootedness, a head for heights, and good physical fitness
- Previous experience with via ferrata or climbing
Alternative route: Follow the path into the valley past the Kneipp facility, then turn left onto the Waalweg trail. Follow this trail until it merges back into the forest road leading to the Stuibenfall.
