The valley is one of the granite climbing areas in Tyrol and, with almost 750 routes in 19 different climbing gardens, offers a wide range of routes at all levels of difficulty. Climbing history was written here by Reinhard Schiestl, who opened the first nine routes in Tyrol in the early 1980s.

The Ötztal
The 67 km long Ötztal valley in the middle of the Ötztal Alps with its 8 villages of Haiming, Sautens, Oetz, Umhausen, Längenfeld, Sölden, Vent and Gurgl stretches from the upper Inntal valley towards the south. Gurgl - with its location at an altitude of 1,930 m - is the highest inhabited church village in Austria.
