For all those who have always wanted to get a taste of climbing, the ClimbingArea Knorren on Mount Penken with its designated sport climbing routes and the two via ferratas “KnorrenNadel” and “SteinBock” is the perfect introduction to lofty heights!

The ClimbingArea Knorren is a classified alpine climbing garden. There are well-secured routes for sport climbing in various levels of difficulty from 4 to 8+. The Knorren also offers an extremely family-friendly environment and can be wonderfully combined with the two via ferratas or a hike.

VIA FERRATAS
Designed for beginners, the KnorrenNadel ViaFerrata starts at the foot of the ClimbingArea Knorren. However, with its two rope bridges and the dizzying viewing platform on the KnorrenNadel, it is by no means to be underestimated.

Experienced climbers will find the Steinbock ViaFerrata in the lower third of the Knorrenwand. After a crisp climb, a view of the incredibly impressive mountain panorama of the Zillertal Alps opens up.

ViaFerrataSet Rental:
Climbing harnesses can be rented in a rental set up to 100kg body weight. The rental point is located directly at the FunSportStation Penken. The two ViaFerratas are located on the Knorren Massif, close to the FunSportStation. Rental for a fee and subject to availability.

SteinBock ViaFerrata:
From the start at a rock tower via a very steep staple passage (C) up onto a ledge. Then again very steep (C), with clamps to the start of the traverse. Exposed (B/C), traverse to a gully, followed by a slab (C). You reach the summit with the cross via scree terrain (B). From the summit, follow a path to the west, which leads to the first insurance points. Descending slightly (A/B), you reach a gully (B) from which you ascend to a crevasse (B). Continue along the ridge (A/B) and then descend more steeply (B) with the help of clamps.

KnorrenNadel ViaFerrata:
From the start on the right of the Steinbock KletterSteig, simply (B) up to a ladder. Cross the Steinbock KletterSteig (A/B) and continue to two rope bridges. At the end of these, climb straight up the wall (A/B) and shortly before the exit via a ladder. Along the ridge to the summit cross. Descent as Steinbock KletterSteig.

Please remember to wear a helmet!
