3 via ferrata tips in the Wilder Kaiser region around Kufstein
- Kufstein via ferrata
A very beautiful, well laid out via ferrata at an altitude of 1,600 m, which is divided into 3 parts: a scree section, a very steep middle section and a final, very exposed traverse that leads directly to the summit. From here you have a fantastic view of the Inntal valley and the Zahmen Kaiser. If you are still in good shape after the via ferrata and feel like climbing for another hour, you can enjoy a view of the south side of the Wilder Kaiser from the summit of the Sonneck. The ideal starting point for the via ferrata is the Anton-Karg-Haus in Hinterbärenbach. This can be reached from the Kaisertal parking lot in Kufstein-Sparchen, hiking through the Kaisertal, in approx. 2 hours. Due to the length of the tour, an overnight stay in a hut is recommended. - Kaiserschützensteig
One of the greatest and longest via ferratas in the Wilder Kaiser. Stamina and good physical condition are required here! Although the route is mainly B/C difficulty, it should not be underestimated, especially for beginners. Alpine experience, surefootedness, a head for heights and suitable equipment are essential. The starting point is the Kaisertal parking lot in Kufstein-Sparchen. From there, it takes around 2 hours through the Kaisertal to the Anton-Karg-Haus in Hinterbärenbad and on to the start of the via ferrata. The route climbs steeply through the Grüne Rinne to the Kleine Halt junction, then on to Gamshalt, where you will encounter countless chamois on a meadow below the summit. An airy connecting ridge with breathtaking views finally leads to the Ellmauer Halt. The walk takes around 3 hours, but the breathtaking panorama is worth the effort. Descent in approx. 2.5 hours via the Gamsängersteig and the Gruttenhütte to the Wochenbrunner Alm in Ellmau or via well-known ascent routes back to Hinterbärenbad. Due to the length of the route, an overnight stay in the Anton-Karg-Haus is recommended. - Widauersteig
One of the easiest and shortest via ferratas in the Wilder Kaiser. However, surefootedness and a head for heights are still required. The starting point is the Brentenjoch at an altitude of 1,200 m, which can be reached with the Kaiserlift from Kufstein. From there, it takes around 1 hour to reach the Kaindlhütte and on to the start of the via ferrata at 1,700 m above sea level. This leads to the 2,100 m high summit of the Scheffauer. From there you have a magnificent view of the Inn Valley. The descent takes about 3 hours via the Kaindlhütte back to the mountain station and from there you can take the lift or the forest path back to the valley in another 2 hours. The Widauersteig is also suitable for beginners and fit children. In summer, a descent on the south side of the Scheffauer or via the Walleralm to Hintersteiner See is also recommended - here you can enjoy a wonderful swim and recover from the exertions of climbing.
