With 38 independent routes, the Grauwand climbing crag in the Rofan mountains offers some of the best limestone climbing. The routes are mostly vertical to slightly overhanging and required good climbing skills and technique. The south-facing climbing crag, which has been completely renovated only recently, is up to 30 metres high and features routes graded 5c to 8a. The Grauwand was one of the first climbing crags in the Rofan. It was built by Hannes Salvenmoser and Otto Oelze in the summer of 1999. In the summer of 2021, all routes were renovated.

From the top station of the Rofan cable car in Maurach, walk down the wide ski slope for ca. 1 kilometre. After the steep slope, the piste divides into two stretches. Follow the left section downhill for about 400 metres. Walk past the grey rock face which is not suitable for climbing. Before the ski slope turns left, there is a tree stump with a cairn on it to the left. At this point, leave the ski slope and follow along the cairns for another 5-10 minutes until you arrive at the rock face. Alternatively, from the valley station of the Rofan cable car, take the hiking trail to the Buchauer Alm*) to the junction on the ski slope described above.
