Climbing area with easy access above the Gramai Alm. The south face of the Sonnjoch rises to 1.100 metres and towers high above the Falzthurntal valley surrounding the Gramai Alm. The shorter routes have a very short approach and are well protected. Climbers have the option to stop for refreshments between two routes. At 1,700 metres long, the heart of the climbing adventure is definitely the 32-pitch route “Herzschlag der Leidenschaft”.

Despite being well protected, the routes have a very alpine character. The descent is mostly by a 55-metre double rope abseil.

17 A. K. Karwendelwind ?

The climbing route "A. K. Karwendelwind" has been drilled into the opposite Lunstkopf.
The route was established in 2012 by Georg Wimmer and Max Schneider. Although it is protected with 136 pitons, it’s not a plaisir climb. In addition, it is compulsory to climb the grade 3 approach without ropes - in case of a bail also on descending!

(12) Herzschlag der Leidenschaft 7a+

12 Herzschlag der Leidenschaft 7a+

A fabulous multi-pitch route for seasoned alpinists looking to test their skills and endurance.
An impressive steep, high wall with an equally impressive short approach. The route is long and well protected, but not overly protected. As you climb, the rock quality gets better and better.
First winter ascent in January 2015 by T. & A. Nothdurfter.

🛬
Access
The entrance is just five minutes (!) from the Gramai Alm car park via a rubble trench. Expect a snowfield whose size depends on the previous winter, and a crevasse.
🛬
Descent
The descent is two hours from the summit in a westerly direction on the signposted hiking trail via the Gramai Hochleger back to the Gramai Alm.

Emergency retreat: Possible after the 11th, 12th and 13th pitch. Climb along the red arrows under the main wall to the Gramai Hochleger (two ascents). In heavy rain, the water masses concentrate in the approach gullies. If that’s the case, climb to the emergency retreat at the top.
