The Olympiaregion Seefeld - perfect for climbers

Seefeld and Leutasch, which is part of the Olympic region, love superlatives: Seefeld offers the highest density of wellness hotels and is a member of the "Best of the Alps" association - an alliance of 12 world-famous tourist destinations in the European Alps. The best of the Alps in terms of lifestyle, events, structures, tourism and sport. The mighty "Great Wall of China" in Leutasch fits perfectly into the picture of superlatives. Hard movers make a pilgrimage to the China Wall and pump their biceps on the many difficult routes. The author does not know whether the Tyrolean rock bar with the exotic name can also be seen from space, like the "real" Great Wall of China. But a climbing visit to the Tyrolean copy of the Great Wall of China is certainly impressive!

Signposts in the Olympiaregion Seefeld

If you want to take things a little more leisurely, head to the Mauerbogen climbing garden or play around on the routes of the "Flämenwandl". Its name is also somehow not very Tyrolean. No wonder Belgians, or even Flämen, drilled the routes after successfully completing a route-building course there.

Enough climbing challenges just waiting to be cracked. To balance out the "rock work", in summer you can do a few laps of the Wildsee on a stand-up board and then enjoy a glass of rosé at the Strandperle to reflect on the day. Seefeld also offers all kinds of events for climbing weekends with a varied supporting program in the summer months.

Leutasch - outdoor Eldorado and climbing insider tip

The Leutasch, the wide valley just a stone's throw from Seefeld, is quiet and idyllic. Nestled between the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountains, Leutasch is a guarantee for all nature and mountain sports enthusiasts. Hikers and mountain bikers can let off steam in the alpine paradise of the Gaistal valley, for example, and there are also paradisiacal conditions for climbers: The mighty rock face of the "Chinese Wall" awaits rock-hungry climbers with 11 sectors. Climbing enthusiasts can have fun at the "Flämenwandl", including a barbecue area and swimming in the Leutascher Ache. The small, idyllically situated "Mauerbogen" sports climbing garden with its enjoyable routes harmoniously completes the sports climbing trilogy in the Olympiaregion Seefeld. And after climbing? You can either end the day in peace and quiet at the Alpenbad Leutasch in Leutasch and take a sauna or, on hot summer days, cool off with a swim in the Möserer See lake at an altitude of almost 1300 meters. If you want something a little more sophisticated, head to Seefeld, 10 minutes away, and immerse yourself in the international crowd of the "Best of the Alps" destination. Have a drink on one of the numerous sun terraces or visit one of the many festivals and events that Seefeld organizes during the summer months.

Pleasure climbing in Tyrolean: Mauerbogen

The Mauerbogen climbing garden

The Mauerbogen is a small, very idyllic climbing garden with routes of medium difficulty. But watch out: The routes are tough - if you're fresh from the gym, it's better to start one grade lower and let the rocky character "work its magic" on you. The tours tend to be rated "hard". After the familiarization phase: a rewarding climbing garden that offers enough challenges for a leisurely day of climbing.

The approach is via a fairly new path that is very well signposted (orange sign "Kettergarten Mauerbogen"). It takes 15 to 20 minutes to reach the boulder, which is steep but not difficult. If you're not pressed for time, you can celebrate the trail with a little more muesli, take photos of flowers, enjoy the panorama and admire the "fern forest". The area is suitable for children, but may not be the best choice for young rock novices due to the climbing character (very closed rock).

Forgotten your topo? No problem! Climbers and anyone interested can pick up a free topo for the Mauerbogen climbing garden from the climbing post box in the parking lot at the sports park in Leutasch.

To ensure that there are always enough climbing topos available, the municipal workers do their "post box round" on Fridays and fill up the topo boxes in the Olympiaregion Seefeld, as there are also topo boxes for the Chinese Wall and Flämenwandl.

Family climbing area in Belgian style: "Flämenwandl"

The "Flämenwandl" - the crag takes its name from the Belgian drilling team that diligently opened up routes after a course. As many as 20 routes between 3 and 7+ have been created. The site directly on the Leutascher Ache is ideal for families. Wooden seating invites you to have a picnic in between and there is plenty of space to play on the wide, level path.

Tip: bring your own sausages and grill them over the fire in the evening on the stone banks of the Leutascher Ache. A summer dream for young and old.

Asia meets Tyrol: Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China - the mighty rock face can be seen very clearly from the valley and attracts visitors with all kinds of impressive lines, some on steep walls, some on impressive overhangs. In total, the China Wall is divided into 11 sectors - each with a slightly different character, all brilliant and challenging. The grades are tough, the routes demand technical finesse from their climbers as well as plenty of lard in their arms. The location and the view of the Stubai Alps exude a special ambience and make the climbing days a special experience in unique surroundings.

Everything but climbing

Leutasch offers a potpourri of other outdoor sports for climbing days. The Gaistal invites you to go hiking or mountain biking. If you like, you can cycle from Leutasch to the Tiroler Zugspitzarena region and enjoy a bike on the sun terrace of the Hochfeldern Alm or Ehrwalder Alm. The density of alpine pastures is second to none and invites you to a hiking alpine rally, fun for the whole family. Water lovers are drawn to Lake Möserer See, a picturesque, deep green natural swimming lake in the forest with water temperatures of up to 25 degrees Celsius at an altitude of almost 1300 meters. Seefeld offers a city feel with its Wildsee lake, which is practically in the village. There is an outdoor pool and a stand-up paddle station on its shore. The Strandperle invites you to enjoy an aperitif on the sun terrace.

It's worth taking a look at Seefeld's event calendar: during the summer months there are all kinds of cultural, musical and culinary events, from summer markets to strudel festivals and summer concerts.
