The Great Lines in Climbers Paradise, Part 1

Pulse 2000 (7c+) in the Chinese Wall climbing garden

What happens when 6 climbing pros sit down at a table to choose the 5 most beautiful lines in Climbers Paradise Tirol? They laughed a lot, talked shop, exchanged fond memories and finally the pros came to an agreement. We present the 5 selected routes in our Great Lines series.

Who chose the Great Lines?

6 top climbers really went all out: Barbara Bacher, Kilian Fischhuber, Michaela Harnisch, Michael Meisl, Markus Schwaiger and Barbara Zangerl have put together a hit list.

We start in the Olympiaregion Seefeld and stop by the "Wall".

The climbing garden: Chinese Wall

The Chinese Wall climbing garden or simply "Mauer" (as the locals call it) is located close to the Bavarian border in Leutasch and offers over 170 routes in eleven sectors. There is plenty of choice and climbers meet here especially in spring, fall and winter (when the sun is shining). However, there are hardly any routes below grade 7 - the grading is strict. Those who feel comfortable at higher grades can really let off steam here.

The route: Puls 2000

Puls 2000 was developed by Zak/Walch in 1992, is located in the Dodlwand sector and is certainly the best-known line on the Great Wall of China.

What does it demand?

For the Puls 2000, one basic principle is enough: very steep, sustained climbing on holes, small holds and many ledges.

The tour is crisp - if you want to score points on it, you need to have some stamina, as there are always difficult sections right to the end. The protection is perfect and you have a wonderful view.

What do the pros say?

Barbara Zangerl: "The rock quality is superb, the holds are unique and varied."
