Spots for the start of the climbing season

The days are getting longer, the temperatures are rising, spring is here. It's time to put an end to the stuffy indoor air and get back out on the rocks. So that the start of the climbing season isn't quite so tough, we present four climbing gardens for the perfect start to the climbing season:

For beginners: The ÖAV climbing garden

South-facing location, hardly any approach and many easy routes - the ÖAV climbing garden is perfect for beginners to take their first steps on the rock. Classics such as "Gasthof Post" (5b), "Herta Normal" (5a) or "Das vergessene Tal" (4c) should definitely be climbed.

If you still have some respect for the routes, some of which are 30 meters long, at the start of the climbing season, the Schleicherplatten, which are located directly on the approach, are perfect for practising. A toprope can be set up from above on the right-hand routes (3a to 4a, approx. 12 meters long).

For hard movers: The Jungle Book

A winter climbing garden in the Innsbruck area, but the Jungle Book is also perfect for climbing in spring. There are numerous difficult routes in all sectors. Reini Scherer's "Dschungelfieber" (8c/8c+) in the main section is still at the top. Other classics are "Agip" and "Swing Time" (both 7c+). But the other sectors also offer very rewarding tours. "Pour L'Amour" (7c+) or "Schnellaktion" (8a) in the Wonderful World sector, to name just a few.

Caution:

Partial rockfall from above due to melting snow or chamois. It is best to always stay directly on the wall.

For connoisseurs: The gallery

High above the Inn Valley with a perfect view, the gallery is a wonderful place, especially in spring. You'll forget the somewhat longer and, above all, steep 25-minute ascent. The medium tours, such as "Das Lächeln am Ende der Leite" (6a+), offer almost 40 meters of perfectly steep wall climbing.

Caution:

An 80 meter rope is useful here.

For advanced climbers and professionals: The Grottenweg wall

Almost all climbers will get their money's worth at the Grottenwand climbing garden located directly on the access route to the Kaiser-Max-Grotte. The left-hand tours offer some technically challenging wall climbing. The "D-Tour" (6a+) or "Giuditta" (6b) are particularly recommended. If you continue a few meters further along the route, the tours become steeper and more difficult. This is where the hard movers get their money's worth. Numerous routes between 7b+ and 8b+ are just waiting to be climbed. And if your forearms are crying out for a break, simply walk a few meters further into the Kaiser Max Grotto, enjoy the fantastic view and let your mind wander.
