He makes the rules. He sees everything. He is the law. The sheriff!
The Austrian Alpine Club is launching its video tutorial series on sport climbing with the trailer "The Sheriff". Under the overall project "SicherAmBerg", instructional videos on all relevant Alpine Club core sports such as ski touring, sport climbing, via ferrata and alpine climbing will be produced in the near future.
Sport climbing - a popular discipline
The topic of sport climbing was taken up first, as there is a noticeable increase in public interest in this area in particular and it is a topic that is comparatively easy to implement. The approach is always the same. The spearhead is an approx. three-minute trailer in which important safety topics are touched on without going into too much depth. The purpose of the trailer is to arouse interest in the topic and to refer to the many available tutorials that can be discovered on the Alpine Club YouTube channel.
SicherAmBerg - a comprehensive program
If you want to find out more about the various topics, you will find what you are looking for at www.alpenverein.at/sicheramberg. SicherAmBerg doesn't just stand for video tutorials. Rather, it is an overall concept consisting of high-quality publications, events, training courses and videos with the aim of increasing safety on the mountain or in the climbing gym.
Climbing stars involved
For the trailer "The Sheriff", well-known Austrian climbers such as Kilian Fischhuber, Anna Stöhr and youth world champion Hannah Schubert were invited to take part in the project. The result is a funny but also somewhat direct short film that shows the consequences of belaying mistakes and specifically points out the most important problems. Lack of attention, slack rope, incorrect position of the belayer or incorrect operation of the belay device are all addressed in the trailer.
Successful content
"The Sheriff" has already been viewed over 70,000 times on social media and shared on countless German-language climbing platforms. The media library on the subject of sport climbing is constantly growing. There are currently eleven tutorials on the latest belay devices, a tutorial on partner checks and one on "belaying safely". Further tutorials are planned for the course of the year.
