The Ötztal has a heart for climbers: from lovingly designed climbing gardens for families to hard-mover walls for cracks who want to test their limits. The valley is one of the granite climbing areas in Tyrol with almost 750 routes in 19 climbing gardens. May the summer be endless ...
TheÖtztal is not stingy with its charms, so here are the most important facts in a nutshell: With a length of 65 kilometers, the Trogtal is the longest side valley of the Inn Valley and also the longest transverse valley in the entire Eastern Alps. In addition, it combines five climatic and scenic differences, which rise in striking steep steps from the beginning of the valley to its brilliant peak: the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road at 2,474 meters above sea level. There is little rain at the beginning of the valley, so that fruit trees, chestnuts and even vines thrive magnificently. At the end of the valley near Obergurgl, on the other hand, the climate is harsh and high alpine. A good 18 percent of the "Ötztal Nature Park" lies in eternal ice and around 250 peaks crack the three thousand meter mark. Climbing fans can look forward to 750 routes spread over 19 different climbing gardens and a large number of multi-pitch areas. By the way: Reinhard Schiestl wrote a piece of climbing history here and opened the first ninth grade climbing route in Tyrol in the early 1980s. The crème de la crème of the climbing world like to meet in Niederthai for training or just to have fun. But wait! The Ötztal not only has delicacies in the upper difficulty level, but definitely also a heart for climbing beginners and families.
Oberried - a climbing meeting point for everyone
Young families in particular know the situation: the parents want to go climbing, but the children should definitely also be able to have fun and play - preferably on a wide meadow where romping around is allowed. The chosen area is a stroke of luck if there are also easy routes for the little ones to try out. The Oberried climbing garden near Längenfeld is one such gem, a multiplayer would probably be the new German term for it. There are a total of 142 routes here in the best gneiss, between the third and ninth degree of difficulty - and a sufficient number of them in all difficulty ranges! It's worth starting your climbing day early, after all, there's plenty of time to enjoy the stylish relaxation area between routes and let the children run around in their own area. Incidentally, Oberried is not just a paradise for family climbers, but a real favorite place for anyone who wants a relaxing day of climbing.

Families first
No matter how mighty the Ötztal may seem as a trough valley with its peaks rising steeply into the sky on both sides - it has a heart for the little things and for its young visitors. The large sunbathing lawns, the lovingly designed playgrounds and, yes, this is also important: toilet facilities. And because a real summer vacation always includes swimming, Mother Nature gave Ötztal Lake Piburger See. More recently, man has added all kinds of bike parks and a water arena located at the 47th parallel: "Area 47".

Rest days in Ötztal? Quite restless ...
Your fingers are tired, your muscles exhausted? Time for a rest day, on hot summer days this is best spent by the water: either swimming or marveling at Tirol's highest waterfall: the Stuibenfall near Umhausen. Over two steep steps, the water plunges 159 meters into the depths with a great roar. If you don't want to miss out on rock contact altogether, there is an interesting via ferrata here. The 450-metre climb leads upwards to the left and right of the waterfall. Quite impressive: the crossing of the waterfall on wire ropes. The via ferrata is suitable for children aged 10 and over. Afterwards, an ice cream and the perfect climbing day is complete.

After-climb and culinary delights
The air is shimmering, the crickets are chirping and your fingers are "hot from climbing" the many routes. High time for a dip in the cool water! Depending on where you have climbed in the long valley, you can cycle from Oetz to Lake Piburger See, for example. Afterwards, stretch your feet out on the lake terrace and cool your fingers with a cold glass - of course, you have to talk climbing shop.
Swimming is all well and good, but your hunger is overpowering? Tip: The "Ötztalerei" serves homemade ice cream and delicious burgers - everything from the region, everything homemade and everything with a view of the church, so to speak, enjoyment and church culture in one bite.

Everything - except climbing
Short and sweet: Biking, biking, biking. Whether along the new Ötztal Cycle Trail to the climbing gardens and via ferratas or on the trails of the "Bike Republic". You will always get your money's worth on two wheels in Ötztal. Water sports are also very important in Ötztal, for example rafting or canyoning or spending a day in the "Area 47" with waterslides and wakeboarding. The "Aqua Dome" promises plenty of relaxation - the thermal spa in Längenfeld is an ideal oasis of calm for rainy days.
Ötztal by bus and bike - every 30 minutes
If you want to travel sustainably, take the free bus, which runs every 30 minutes in and out of the valley to all villages and numerous starting points for climbing or mountain tours. Or you can hire an (e-)bike on site and whizz from highlight to highlight along the Ötztal Cycle Trail.
Stay overnight
The "Feelfree Nature Resort" in Oetz is the perfect place for climbing enthusiasts in the beautiful chalets and rooms. There is also a climbing tower in the garden, a lovely restaurant and the Ötztal Cycle Trail starts right on the doorstep. An alternative for camping fans: the campsite in Umhausen. It is not far from the Stuiben Falls and offers a cozy restaurant and a bouldering wall on site.
