Multi-pitch climbing tips for the fall: tours + equipment

Autumn is the perfect season for multi-pitch tours. The weather is more stable and safer than in summer and it's no longer so hot in the sun. But what do I need to take with me, what do I pack in my rucksack?

Ideallyas much as necessary and as little as possible. Of course, this is always a compromise, but ideally you should be equipped for the tour in question and tailored to your own requirements and ability. The Jungmannschaftswand in the Ehnbachklamm in Zirl near Innsbruck is an ideal climbing destination for the fall: We introduce you to the tour and also have the right backpack packing list for you.

We have also put together some more tour tips for you on the Jungmannschaftswand in the Ehnbachklamm gorge in Zirl. With a manageable approach (15 minutes) and moderate tour lengths (maximum 4 pitches; up to 125 m total length), the area is ideal for autumn climbing days.

Jimmy's canal

The "easiest" tour on the Jungmannschaftswand. Like the Jungmannschaftsriss, this tour has already been polished by several ascents, but is still very beautiful and is therefore often climbed, and not without good reason! Due to the sometimes very smoothly polished footholds, the key length is now probably half a degree harder. However, thanks to the good protection, there is no need to be afraid!

Good to know

The ascent and descent are very short, but surefootedness is required in the last part of the ascent and the first part of the descent. A slip can end fatally.

The wall faces east and is therefore sunny in the morning. The rock dries quickly when it rains.

Rucksack packing list*

According to the motto: "As much as necessary and as little as possible."

*No claim to completeness!

Further tour options on the Jungmannschaftswand Jimmy's Canal: The easiest tour through the Jungmannschaftswand. However, the difficulty level (5c+) should be mastered. Stairway to Heaven: Impressive tour with a difficulty level of 7b+, to the left of the Jungmannschaftsriss. There are three variations on the second pitch, with 7a being the most rewarding. It is also the longest tour on the Jungmannschaftswand. Mister President: Very rewarding tour (6c+). The key length is tough and demanding for the grade. Two long pitches with 45 vertical meters each require stamina. Chefouvreur: Homogeneous and rewarding tour with 4 pitches in grade 6c.
