Limit #2: Editorial by Gebi Bendler and Michael Meisl

Our home is Tyrol, the land of mountains. The land where others go on vacation. The land of unlimited climbing opportunities. Gebi Bendler and Michael Meisl

Tyrolis an old friend of ours. We think we know every mountain range, every corner, every nook and cranny. Together we have a staggering 60 years of climbing expertise in Tyrol - frightening and beautiful at the same time. For this issue, we once again embarked on a journey through Tyrol.

We climbed between hundred-year-old stone pines in the Kaunertal, through routes steeped in history in the Wilder Kaiser, through terrifying north faces in the Karwendel. We enjoyed the million-year-old reef limestone of the Steinplatte, the perfect gneiss in the Ötztal as well as the Swiss cheese-like perforated conglomerate rock high above Imst. We had wonderful hosts, bathed in emerald-green mountain lakes and enjoyed the fresh valley wind in the shadow of the last ice giants.

"Although I live here and have been climbing in Tyrol for 40 years, I am always surprised at how many new things there are still to discover." Michael Meisl

But we also often felt caught out on this trip. We never expected that our good old friend would reveal so many new facets of her mysterious beauty. Tyrol has much more to offer than the well-known and much-visited fashionable tours. The variety, the different rock, the different styles of first ascents, the historic routes that were first climbed more than 100 years ago, the modern plaisir climbs, the wild trad routes from the 1980s and the endless longlines with up to 38 pitches - this variety is simply unique.

"For me, Tyrol with the Northern Limestone Alps and the Dolomites is and remains the land of unlimited alpine climbing opportunities. Nowhere else can you find such diversity in such a small area." Gebi Bendler

This summer we were able to discover the exotic in our own, the foreign in the nearby and the new in the old. We can't wait to see what surprises you have in store for us in the future.
