Innsbruck - Mountain sports finds city

The new climbing center Innsbruck

Somehow we didn't care about the weather forecast on Sunday evening. We knew where we were going on Monday. Whether rain, snow or sunshine. Because Monday, May 15, 2017 was written thick in our calendar. It was to be the day on which a new era dawned for the Tyrolean climbing scene, as the new Innsbruck Climbing Center opened its doors. We, Mauerfix, naturally didn't want to miss out. It is said to be one of the largest and most modern climbing facilities in the world and we wanted to see for ourselves.

We could already see the 3 distinctive towers for the outdoor area from afar. For those of us who had to travel by car, there was always the question of parking. However, there are plenty of parking spaces and our fingers were already starting to tingle. We quickly got our stuff out of the trunk and headed inside. It is simply amazing what they have created here. Bright, huge and with plenty of space to linger, it can't be compared with the old Tivoli.

Bistro, guest garden, children's area and changing rooms, everything has found its place and we knew that the block of 12 belonged in our wallet like our ID card. After a short tour of the bouldering hall, the outdoor area and a coffee in the bistro, we set off to test the routes in the lead climbing area. After a short warm-up, we tried a 9- in the overhang and were immediately rewarded with an onsight. Inspired by the new hall or simply in good shape - we didn't care. We got our reward in the bistro with delicious pasta with green asparagus and a beer. So we like it here.

Experience Innsbruck outdoors ...

To find out whether all the training at the new Innsbruck climbing center has paid off, there is the climbing guide "Sportklettern Innsbruck", fresh from the printers. Published by AM-BERG Verlag, it provides an overview of Innsbruck's climbing gardens, bouldering areas and via ferratas. All drytooling areas and icefalls in the Sellrain Valley have also been included in the book, making it a companion for the whole year.

We had the opportunity to talk to the author Günter Durner, who is also responsible for last year's climbing guide for the Imst, Pitztal and Ötztal vacation region.

A must-read for climbing in Innsbruck
the vacation villages and the Trioler Oberland

... and its vacation villages

In other words, the book also covers all the surrounding villages right up to the sunny Mieminger Plateau. The Telfer Arzbergklamm gorge is also included in the book and here we were able to help Günter, as there were a few inconsistencies. So you can be sure that you won't miss the start of your new project. And you always have the right climbing equipment with you, such as the right number of quickdraws and a sufficiently long climbing rope.
