The climbing garden in the nature and biking paradise on the Hahntennjoch! The journey is the destination
That's more or less how we felt when we parked our VW bus in the middle of a horde of bikers. For the motorcyclists, the goal was not the climbing garden on the Hahntennjoch, but the crossing. The winding route with its steep slopes is the most popular route between the Lechtal valley and Imst.
For us, however, the first destination was the parking lot at the highest point on the Hahntennjoch at 1894 m. The striking wall in the alpine pasture area is already visible from the car, another 100 meters higher and thus located at 2000 m. The ideal spot in midsummer. The 30-minute approach seemed a bit excessive at first, but the steep ascent between the mountain pine field and our heavy climbing rucksacks proved to be true.
Compact limestone in a dream setting on the Hahntennjoch
There we were, surrounded by the mountains, green meadows, blue skies and compact gray limestone. At that moment, it couldn't have been more beautiful anywhere else in the world. After a short breather, it was time to tackle the wall. With up to three pitches, there was also something for our alpinists. Everyone should find their project in the 5a - 7c range. However, due to the steep approach, it is not necessarily suitable for children.
After warming up, we tried the "Preludium" route , one of the most beautiful 6b+ routes I've ever climbed. A little tricky in the lower part and with a final boulder in the upper third, a particularly successful line on the so-called "music pillar".
Compact limestone also awaits you in the left-hand "café sector". This is where I wanted to go for it and entered the "Amaretto " full of motivation and confidence. However, the on-sight go was over at the second crux. These technical routes, quite confusing in the gray rock, simply don't allow a wrong move. The second attempt was supposed to be it, and with a 7a you can start your journey home with a clear conscience.
For the thirst afterwards
The perfect ending right at the parking lot - a snack - to welcome the bikers at the highest point on the Hahntennjoch. For us, it was the perfect place with a view of the wall to analyze the routes once again over a bike.

We will definitely be back.
