The first school year in which the Kraxlfreunde project was carried out was coming to an end and so it was time to carry out the first focus climbing courses outdoors. Some classes from NMS Gabelsberger, NMS Pembaur, NMS Rum and Reithmanngymnasium went to the Ehnbachklamm gorge or the Erfurter Hütte.
The first item on the program was the ascent to the Erfurter Hütte, which EVERYONE managed under their own steam. The goal of mastering the ascent as a class community was achieved equally by all classes. The strengthening of the class community was made visible by the pupils helping each other. Some of the stronger students helped the weaker ones by taking their luggage off their shoulders. Mutual motivation and cheering each other on could also be observed and allowed the plan for the pupils to reach a common goal to be fully realized.
In the gorge and at the hut, courageous abseils were followed by first attempts at climbing in the great outdoors. Some pupils proved to be particularly brave and even mastered their first via ferrata.
In addition to climbing and hiking, experiential educational trust games were also part of the excursions. Here too, the pupils were able to solve the tasks together as a class and had a lot of fun together.
Whether it was an afternoon in the Ehnbachklamm gorge or two days at the Erfurter Hütte, the youngsters all pushed themselves to their limits and showed a good deal of courage. The braver students supported all those who were a little more respectful of the new sport and so the entire class managed to complete their first meters of climbing on the rock.
Proud, exhausted and full of new impressions, the pupils can now enjoy their well-deserved vacation.
Many thanks to all the climbing instructors and mountain guides who made these unforgettable days possible for the kids and who had so much fun with them.
We would also like to thank Mammut, who provided the climbing enthusiasts with smarts, and Stubai, who made the days possible in the first place by providing harnesses.
