Ecopoint - What is it?

Redpoint? Sure, climbing a route without falling or cheating your way up a piton. Ecopoint? Not quite so clear. Not yet anyway, but hopefully soon. The Ecopoint concept extends the concept of the red point to include getting there by fair means (public transport, bike, boat, on foot).

Why is this important? Because most of the emissions on a climbing trip are caused by the journey to and from the crag. On average, a car emits 15 times as much CO2 per passenger kilometer as a train. The mission of the newly published website www.ecopointclimbing.com is to promote and strengthen sustainable mobility in climbing by providing a freely accessible community platform where climbers can inform and inspire each other to climb more sustainably.

This website is a community project: it is intended for all climbers who want to contribute their Ecopoint knowledge to inspire and inform others to climb more sustainably. Here you can find out more about how you can make a contribution! And there is also a lot of potential here in Climbers Paradise Tirol, as many of the spots are easily accessible by public transport. Wonderfully summarized in the "Sustainable Climbing Guide" by Lena, which you can view here for free. Let's paint more green dots on the rock!
