Climbing gardens in Innsbruck and the surrounding area

Innsbruck - the capital of Tyrol, located in the heart of the Alps, with the world-famous Golden Roof, a magnet for thousands of tourists. Not only is there skiing, sightseeing and hiking here, but Innsbruck also offers a climbing scene that is rarely found anywhere else. This is not only due to what is probably the best climbing hall in the world at the moment, the KI Kletterzentrum Innsbruck, but also the countless climbing opportunities around Innsbruck. We present some of them to you:

Hötting quarry

The legendary Hermann Buhl recognized and used the historic Höttinger Stein bruch climbing garden directly in Innsbruck, on the way to Hungerburg, as a training opportunity for his daring climbs and solo attempts.

However, the Hötting quarry is not just a training ground for major undertakings. There are very rewarding routes between difficulty levels 5 and 7c. The routes "Das Gekörnte" and "Powerplay", both 6b+, are particularly recommended and not easy for the grade. The classic for hard movers is the "Sperrbezirk" at 7c.

The climbing garden faces west and is therefore ideal for climbing in the shade in the morning or in the sun in the afternoon. Depending on the season and your mood. Even when it rains, the slightly overhanging left-hand section of the wall always stays dry.

Martinswand

The Martinswand is certainly the best-known climbing wall around Innsbruck. There are countless tours here, from single-pitch sport climbing to multi-pitch tours through the entire wall. Here you can let off steam. Countless climbing gardens await visitors. What they all have in common is the relatively short approach and easy accessibility from Innsbruck (you can even get there by bike).

Due to the south-facing location, climbing is even possible in winter, in summer it is often often too hot during the day.

Ehnbach Gorge

Wonderful approach through the gorge, many short and easy tours. Flat wall base with a stream to play in. These are the ingredients for the almost perfect climbing garden for the whole family. It is not without reason that the Ehnbachklamm gorge is very popular on beautiful weekends.

Climbing center Innsbruck

Not only worth a visit in bad weather. When climbers think of Innsbruck, they also think of the KI. Indoor/outdoor bouldering and lead climbing area. Children's area, weight room, bistro and much more. The meeting place for the Innsbruck climbing scene. And with a bit of luck, you'll be climbing next to the reigning climbing world champions Jakob Schubert and Jessica Pilz.
