Innsbruck is practically the climbing capital of the Alps. Nowhere else is the density of climbers as high as in the Tyrolean capital. This is due not only to the unique new climbing hall in Innsbruck, but also to the numerous rock climbing opportunities in the immediate vicinity. Almost every skill level will find a suitable area for climbing in Innsbruck or the surrounding area. There are also climbing gardens in Innsbruck and the surrounding area to suit every season. So let's go climbing in Innsbruck!
We introduce you to some of the areas around Innsbruck:
AV Klettergarten
Perfect limestone on the Martinswand
The AV Klettergarten at the foot of the Martinswand offers many easy routes with the best protection. Many climbers have taken their first steps on the rock here. Unfortunately, this has its consequences. Some of the rock is already a little worn. In midsummer, it can get very hot on the wall due to its south-facing position. At the base of the wall itself there is plenty of shade from the trees.
Ehnbach Gorge
In the Ehnbachklamm gorge near Innsbruck
The Ehnbachklamm gorge near Zirl is ideal for climbing families with children, especially in midsummer.
After an approx. half-hour hike through the impressive gorge, at the end over the dam wall, you will find many short tours suitable for children with perfect protection. The stream is also a great place to build a dam and play.
Hötting quarry
The Hötting quarry in Innsbruck
The Hötting quarry is practically the classic right in Innsbruck, on the road to Hungerburg. The climbing garden with the longest tradition and one of the very first climbing gardens. Unfortunately, the lower part is already quite slimmed down, but there are still tours worth recommending with classics such as Sperrbezirk 7c or Powerplay 6b+. The climbing garden faces west and is shaded in the morning. Ideal in summer. What's more, the left-hand routes stay dry when it rains.
Jungle Book
The Jungle Book climbing garden
One of the best-known climbing areas for hard movers around Innsbruck is the Dschungelbuch. Its south-facing location makes it ideal in spring, fall and on sunny winter days. The small ledges on the mostly vertical wall require a lot of finger strength. The grading is also relatively strict. The Oberer Stock in the main section was unfortunately destroyed a few years ago by a blast in the adjacent quarry. As a result, the Jungle Book was closed for some time. Climbing has been possible again for a few years now, and the ground was also removed during the clearing work, extending some tours downwards. Worthwhile tours: Swing Time 7c, Baghira 7a, Peter Pan 8a.
Seegruben climbing arena
The insider tip with a view over Innsbruck. The Seegruben climbing arena was created a few years ago behind the mountain station of the Nordkettenbahn. A 30-minute walk from the Seegrube there are many rewarding climbing tours. Ideal in summer due to the altitude. Nevertheless, it can get very hot due to the south-facing location.
