Grill&Climb: culinary tips for vertical climbing
Summer is finally here and we're looking forward to climbing on rough rock, putting on our approach shoes and studying the topos together, aching fingertips, the cool breeze when belaying and spontaneous encounters. And there's no better way to end the day than with a barbecue in the climbing garden.
Alice Angermann has collected 9 simple recipes for us and we show you 3 climbing gardens where you can sit together comfortably after a day of rock climbing.
For a barbecue in the climbing garden you need a disposable barbecue enough charcoal and a lighter one or better two carving knives (for making barbecue sticks) 4 tips for outdoor barbecues in the climbing garden Do not overheat or even char the food. Do not allow fat to drip onto the embers. Herbs such as marjoram, oregano, mustard, rosemary or sage are very good barbecue spices. With a bit of luck, these can also be found on the rock. Only add herbs at the end - they burn very easily! 9 recipes for barbecuing in the climbing garden: 1) Grilled apples 1 apple 1 stick
Grilled apples for barbecuing in the climbing garden
Tart, small apples (e.g. Elstar or Boskop) are best, which - skewered on a stick - are held over the fire or in the embers for approx. 10 minutes at a distance of at least half a meter.
The apple is cooked when its skin starts to crack.
2) Stick bread ½ kg spelt flour 1 dry yeast 1 tbsp sugar 400 ml milk ½ tsp salt or bread spice Approx. 15 sticks
Tip: It's great fun to look for sticks together with children and then carve them into barbecue sticks.

Mix all the ingredients together and knead into a smooth dough. Leave to rest for 15 minutes and leave to rise in a warm place. Then divide the dough into small portions, pull into a rope and wrap around the stick in a snake shape. Hold over the fire for approx. 10 minutes - not directly into the flame!
Tip for taking away: The dough can be stored for a longer period of time in a well-sealed container and taken directly to the barbecue area.
3) Vegetable pockets
You can prepare "vegetable pockets" at home for the grid or grill. In addition to the flavor highlight, these also have a certain surprise effect: Which vegetables are hiding in my bag?
Aluminum foil, baking paper Seasonal vegetables (there should always be vegetables rich in water - e.g. tomatoes, zucchinis) some salt herbs
Cut the vegetables into small cubes and mix with fresh herbs if necessary. Place the vegetables on baking paper prepared in a square (15 x 15 cm). Then place on the aluminum foil. Now form small parcels and place directly on the grill or in the embers. Do not salt until the vegetables are ready to eat.
4) Sheep's cheese parcels with herbs
The sheep's cheese parcels are also easy to prepare at home and are certainly a culinary treat.
Aluminum foil, baking paper Sheep's cheese herbs 1 tbsp oil
Place the sheep's cheese with the herbs on the baking paper and aluminum foil. Spread a thin layer of oil on the foil beforehand - form a pocket and place on the grill or directly in the embers.
5) Grilled vegetables 1 eggplant 2 zucchinis 2 red and yellow peppers 4 garlic cloves 2 tbsp lemon salt, pepper
Clean and wash the eggplants and zucchinis, cut the zucchinis lengthwise and the eggplants crosswise, season everything with salt. Quarter the peppers lengthways, remove the seeds, peel the garlic, halve lengthways and mix with the lemon juice.
Mix the vegetables in a bowl and leave to stand. Then season with salt and pepper and grill for approx. 10 minutes, turning several times.
Tip: In addition to fresh mushrooms, onions, peppers, zucchinis and eggplants, broccoli and cauliflower are also suitable for grilling directly on the grid.
6) Courgette and feta rolls 3 zucchinis ½ kg feta cheese 200 g sun-dried tomatoes salt, pepper toothpicks
Feta cheese for grilling
Wash the zucchinis and cut lengthwise into thin slices. Cut the cheese into slices (approx. 1 cm thick) and drain the tomatoes. Place the cheese on the bottom end of the zucchini slice, place the tomatoes on top and roll up. Secure the end with toothpicks. These rolls can be placed on the grill and are ready in about 5 minutes.
7) Potatoes are simply a must
Potatoes cooked soft in their skins can be wrapped in baking paper and aluminum foil and placed directly in the embers. Then you don't have a baked potato, but a "fire potato".
8) Chocolate banana Aluminum foil, baking paper Banana with the peel chocolate
Chocolate bananas: let's get them on the grill
Cut into the inside of the banana with the skin. Insert the chocolate pieces, wrap first in baking paper and then in aluminum foil and seal well. Place the banana on the grill or directly in the embers for approx. 10 minutes.
9) Sweet pockets Aluminum foil, baking paper Seasonal fruit
Cut the fruit into small pieces, marinate with lemon juice if necessary, place on the prepared baking paper and then on the aluminum foil (15 cm x 15 cm). Twist into a parcel and place in the embers or on the grill rack. Chocolate chips can be added according to taste.
