A climbing vacation at Achensee means: Italian dolce vita meets Scandinavian fjord ambience, spiced up with a generous pinch of Canada National Park feeling. A natural stage for climbing and outdoor sports fans.
Tyrol'slargest lake rests elongated in its deep bed and presents itself to its astonished viewers in places as a Norwegian fjord with steep towering rock faces, in places like a Caribbean dream with turquoise water. And if you then take the road to Pertisau, for a brief moment you imagine you are on Lake Garda, with its many tunnels, where you can always catch a glimpse of the water. Colorful sailcloths, surfers and the kites of kiters round off the typical "Lago feeling" perfectly. Oh yes, the Karwendel valleys around the lake have a bit of a national park atmosphere, just like in Canada. Only the bears are missing, but the marmots whistle and the four-legged summer visitors moo happily in greeting.
There are two mountain ranges available for climbing: the Rofan Mountains and the Karwendel. In addition to climbing, there is a wide range of outdoor activities on Tirol's largest lake: water sports, biking, hiking, yoga and wellness. The climbing offer is also extensive: beginners can spontaneously sign up for climbing courses for children and adults. Connoisseurs will appreciate the easy routes, ambitious climbers will get their money's worth in the "Klobenjoch" climbing garden, for example, and alpine climbing fans can also choose from a variety of short to very long routes. Let the games begin, the Achensee is the best natural stage for them.
Rofan - Deep views. Far-reaching views. Views.
The Rofan mountains are a real feast for the eyes, with their broad alpine pastures and steep, picturesque mountain peaks that form a kind of arena and natural stage like tin soldiers.
The high plateau is ideal for families with small children - accordingly, many easy climbing gardens have been created here, which will not only make the eyes of young climbing novices light up. Adult beginners also have fantastic opportunities in the Mauritzalm, Grubaplatte and Grubastiege sport climbing gardens to stroll from climbing rock to climbing rock, climb a few routes, perhaps attempt a lead climb and spend the rest of the time lying on the meadow and soaking up the scent of the alpine herbs. The slightly higher Klobenjoch offers strong climbers in particular a true project Eldorado for tinkering, testing and climbing up to the upper 10th grade. On the Rotspitz, on the other hand, the alpinists among the climbers go into raptures with such beautiful lines and a magnificent view.

Grauwand - colorful climbing potpourri from 6a to8a
The Grauwand climbing garden is also located in the Rofan mountains. 35 routes in the best limestone, up to 30 meters high, south-facing and with difficulties between 6a and 8a definitely worth a visit. The routes were completely renovated and cleaned in summer 2021. Above all, the rock quality and the ambience here in the Rofan is hard to beat The climbing garden can be reached by walking downhill from the Rofanbahn mountain station for approx. 1.5 kilometers. Of course it is also possible on foot.
Tip: At the Achensee Welcome Center (integrated in the "Atoll Achensee" wellness center) you can get a free climbing overview map and selected guide material for the areas.
Gramai climbing area - sport climbing. Multipitch. Alpine classics.
Gramai - a touch of Canada surrounds the three Karwendel valleys, which have carved themselves deep into the mountain world and where the peaks thrust themselves mightily into the sky. The starting point for all kinds of climbing fun is the parking lot at the Gramai Alm: sport climbing, short or longer multi-rope routes or would you prefer a classic alpine tour? On hot summer days, we recommend a visit to the "Gramai Wasserfall" climbing garden, which offers two sectors with interesting routes. The routes are technically challenging. The waterfall acts like a natural air conditioning system and its fine spray mist ensures a pleasant coolness on the skin. A dip in the cool water and a hearty snack are the perfect way to round off a summer climbing vacation.
The Sonnjoch south side with its wall rising up to 1,100 meters has so much more to offer: Countless short multi-pitch routes and long multi-pitch tours are just waiting to be conquered. For local climbers, the "Heartbeat of Passion" route is one of the special treats: 32 pitches, 1,700 meters of climbing.
After-climb and culinary delights
Achensee is not only a starting point, but also a meeting point for all mountain and water sports enthusiasts, cyclists and climbers. People meet on one of the many terraces facing the lake and enjoy the good life. If you need more information or climbing equipment, pop into the "Atoll Achensee" store and then enjoy a sundowner and pizza on the "Atoll Achensee" terrace. If you climb in the Gramai, you have to stop off at the Alm - it's simply too beautiful not to. Find out more here: culinary overview.
